Kindred Spirits - a Review

                                                  Kindred Spirits

Ami Bruni and Adam Perry of Kindred Spirits

Ami Bruni is the co-star and Executive Producer of the hit paranormal tv show on TLC, called Kindred Spirits. She has 20 years of experience investigating the paranormal. Amy was formerly a cast member of Ghost Hunters, which she joined in 2008. She was with Ghost Hunters for seven years. She has a passion for both travel and history.

Adam Perry had many terrifying paranormal experiences as a young man, including a harrowing experience with spirits on the battlefield in Gettysburg, PA. His interest in the paranormal led him to join Ghost Academy, which led him to become a cast member of Ghost Hunters in 2010.

After some drama, which I will skip, Ami and Adam left Ghost Hunters and started their own show. The show is typical in most ways from Ghost Hunters. Their investigative techniques are the usual that we have come to expect; evp sessions, IR cameras, voice recorders, ghost boxes, the new SLS camera, and jumping to the usual assumptions.

I have watched two of the most recent episodes of the new season and some things have jumped out at me.

First, both Ami and Adam are very personable, pleasant and intelligent investigators. They are also very caring people. They seem to genuinely care about the clients, far beyond what the show would warrant. The client seems to be their priority, as they should be. They exclusively do private investigations, which means that they do not have teams running all over some 10,000 square foot abandoned penitentiary. They are there at the request of the client, who is experiencing disturbing paranormal activity. Ami and Adam want to get to the bottom of the haunting, determine the cause, and, first and foremost, set the client’s fears to rest.

However, sometimes, or most of the time, it is just not possible to do that. Little is ever learned on a one night or even a one week investigation to be able to give people closure, answers, or even assurances that all is well.

In spite of that, Ami and Adam, with amazing speed, come to conclusions based upon very little, and are very quick to bring nothing but assurances of peace and quiet moving forward in their home. Everyone leaves happy, with hugs all around, and even though the fist bumping of Jason and Grant is absent, a job well done is assured by all.

Really?

This just isn’t convincing at all. It’s nice and everything, but not realistic. It’s like paranormal-lite.

The other thing that is not convincing are the ghost box sessions. They use a technique of sensory deprivation, where Ami wears a blind fold and headphones. Only she can hear the ghost box. Adam is asking questions. Ami, when she hears anything on the ghost box, repeats it so that Adam can hear. Ok, that’s good, actually. That way the person asking the questions cannot be heard by the person listening and repeating what the ghost box says. It eliminates any form of cheating. Here’s my problem. I have used a ghost box, so I have experience. A ghost box scans radio frequencies rapidly. Occasionally, a voice can be heard saying a word, a part of a word, or, rarely, two words. Whole sentences are extremely rare. So, as Ami is repeating what she is hearing through the ghost box, she is repeating whole phrases, sentences, and in rather rapid succession. They are also directly answering Adam’s questions.  This is not the way it happens with a ghost box, ever. I’d say never and go out on a limb here and call shenanigans.  This can’t be.  Especially because it happened on two episodes in a row. Faked? Scripted? WTPH?

Chip Coffee, a renowned psychic and a man I have met and trust, was also connected up to a ghost box at the same time as Ami. He, however, never said a word. Not a peep out of the man during the entire session. Why?

In the most recent episode, Adam and Ami investigate the infamous Conjuring House in Rhode Island. They even bring the entire Perron family into the residence. I have met and spoken with Andrea Perron. She is a very classy, soft spoken and smart woman. She has a lot of credibility. She has written three books on the hauntings of her former childhood home. There are new owners of the home now, who called Kindred Spirits in to investigate. They have only lived there for two months, and, yet, were experiencing a ton of activity. They had thoroughly researched the house and were very aware of its history and notoriety. They are also both paranormal investigators.

So…let me see if I have this straight. They know the home is haunted and they know about the Perrons and The Conjuring movies. They move into the house and immediately claim to be experiencing paranormal activity just like the Perrons did. AND they get themselves onto a TV show with Ami and Adam asap. Amazing how that works, don’t you think?

Now, remember, this is all my opinion based upon my viewing of two shows. Just my opinion, This show, in my opinion, is not worth your time to watch. Move on.  Into the light… of another show. Just a suggestion.  It airs on TLC on Friday nights at 9:00 pm est.

I bear no animosity towards any TV personality but have to draw the line at their authenticity and would have to call into question all their investigative credentials.

This is not about friendships and I will apologize up front if anything I ever write is construed as bashing anyone personally. I know the rules of argument and to anyone responding, I would remind them that the main rule of argument is; Attack the argument and not the arguer. We must also remember to not confuse our strength of feeling or passion of the subject, for the strength, of our side of the argument.

That being said, lets get onto the post.

The one thing I always have problems with are labels. Maybe it is just human nature for people to think a label gives them some sort of credibility. Well, it doesn't. I always seem to respond by writing too much for the subject at hand but would never call myself a writer. (which will be obvious when you read my posts. lol) This is why I have a little heartburn when I see people, on and off TV calling themselves Paranormal Investigators when they are nothing more than a ghost hunter. Gadgets and labels don't qualify anyone as anything.

I am going to leave this open for responses and come back later to answer.

For instance, a gadget was mentioned here. A ghost box I believe. Now I would have to ask those who use it; what does it do? How do you know it does what they tell you? How do you know anything you use, works for what you say you do?
This actually goes for any physical gadget you bring with you, on what people call investigations these days. Pam hit it on the head, you can't investigate anything thoroughly in a few hours, sitting in the dark, waiting for something to happen and that's not investigating anyway. lol
If you are going to call yourself an investigator, with no formal training, then at least you should be able to answer this correctly; what you are looking for? So, what is that?

Lastly I have to just touch on TV. ALL the people we see on TV in any capacity, wanted to be on TV as their top priority. Ghost Hunting was just the easiest since you don't need to prove anything.
Those people just had to use the catchy phrases, use phony gadgets and present well in front of the camera. Bingo... they now are a famous ghost hunter, or whatever.

Unfortunately they don't care about the audience as long as they get their fame and or paychecks. These poor people who watch, thinking these people are the last word in researching/investigating the paranormal. All being fooled into doing what they are told to sell shows, gadgets and attend events. Kinda sad when you think about it.
Oh, you don't think for a minute these shows do it for the knowledge or for anything remotely related to the subject. They do it for the money. Lets be real... It is their livelihood! This is how they pay the bills, feed their families and if lucky and have a hit show, they can live large and they use you to achieve it.

Well, enough said for now. Someone out there must have an opinion. Lets clear the air if nothing else.

I will share this with my FB page as well.
